Do Passkeys on Bybit Stop Phishing? A Practical Review of Setup and Recovery

Guides · 2026-10-09

Phishing has always been the weak point of code-based verification: a convincing fake login page can collect both your password and a fresh one-time code and use them immediately. Passkeys change that equation because they are bound to the genuine website and never reveal a reusable secret. Bybit supports passkeys alongside authenticator apps. This review looks at what passkeys protect against, what they do not, how to set one up and how to plan recovery so a lost device does not mean a lost account.

What a passkey actually protects against

A passkey uses public-key cryptography. Your device holds a private key that only signs requests from the real Bybit domain. A phishing site at a different address cannot trigger it, so there is no code for an attacker to capture and replay. This makes passkeys particularly effective against fake login pages, which remain one of the most common ways exchange accounts are compromised.

What it does not protect against

A passkey does not protect a device that is already compromised by malware, nor does it stop someone who has your unlocked phone in hand. It also does not help if you are persuaded to approve an action yourself, such as sending funds to a scammer's address. Pair passkeys with a withdrawal allowlist, alerts and a healthy suspicion of anyone asking you to move funds urgently.

Setting one up and testing it

In the security settings, choose to add a passkey and confirm with your device's biometric or PIN. Then log out and log back in using the passkey to make sure it works. If your passkeys sync through a platform account or password manager, that account becomes important; protect it with strong verification of its own. Consider registering a passkey on a second device.

Planning recovery alongside passkeys

Keep an authenticator app with its backup key written on paper, or a second registered passkey, so that losing one device does not lock you out. Read Bybit's account recovery guidance in the help centre to understand what identity checks may be required if all methods are lost. Write down which methods are active and where backups are stored, without recording the secrets themselves online.

Risk boundary: Bybit Independent Review

Digital assets are volatile and derivatives can amplify losses. This website has no login, wallet connection, deposit form or customer-support chat. A referral link only records attribution; it does not guarantee access, pricing, rewards, approval or investment results. Availability can differ by residence, legal entity and product, so no regional access is assumed from language or branding alone.
