Bybit Proof of Reserves Review: Running the Self-Check on Your Own Balance

Guides · 2026-10-14

Bybit, like other large exchanges, publishes a proof of reserves page with a headline ratio for major assets. Reading that ratio and moving on misses the most useful part: the ability to check that your own balance was included. This review walks through that self-check and then looks at what the report can and cannot tell an ordinary user about the safety of their funds.

Find the latest snapshot

The proof of reserves page is linked from the Bybit website footer and the help centre. Note the snapshot date at the top, then scroll through the asset list. Bybit typically shows the ratio for each asset separately, which is more informative than any total, and lists the wallet addresses or holdings it counted so others can examine them on chain. Each listed asset shows the platform's holdings against user balances. If an asset you hold is not on the list, the report does not cover it.

Check your own inclusion

While logged in, open the verification section of the page. Bybit shows your record identifier and the balances it recorded for you at the snapshot time. Compare those with your asset history for that date. For a deeper check, Bybit explains how to use the open source verification tool to confirm your entry links to the published Merkle root.

What the report leaves out

A snapshot proves holdings at one moment. It does not show liabilities beyond user balances, how assets move between snapshots or the company's wider financial position. Look for any attestation or auditor note to see what was independently reviewed. Treat the report as one input, not a final answer. Reading it alongside Bybit's terms on custody and its announcements about wallet changes gives a fuller picture than the ratio alone.

Verdict on the self-check

Bybit's implementation is straightforward and the self-check takes a couple of minutes. It is worth doing after each new snapshot and saving a dated screenshot. If your recorded balance differs from your own history, contact support through the in-app chat while that snapshot is still current, attaching the identifier and both figures. Combine it with sensible custody habits, such as keeping long-term holdings in a wallet you control.

Risk boundary: Bybit Independent Review

Digital assets are volatile and derivatives can amplify losses. This website has no login, wallet connection, deposit form or customer-support chat. A referral link only records attribution; it does not guarantee access, pricing, rewards, approval or investment results. Availability can differ by residence, legal entity and product, so no regional access is assumed from language or branding alone.
